I am a local guy who grew up in Agoura and graduated from Agoura High School many moons ago. I have been teaching at
Newbury Park High School since 2005. I teach American Government, Economics, Anthropology, and Comparative Religions.
I am also the co-adviser for the NPHS chapter of the National Honor Society. I was a union plumber and steamfitter for
14 years, before I broke my back in an industrial accident in 2002. This serious injury changed my life in profound
ways. I learned to attack life with all I’ve got. The prospect of facing life without the ability to walk has taught
me to live life with “NO REGRETS.” This philosophy enabled me to work hard to overcome my disability and walk again.
I adhere to the philosophy that an educational system isn't worth a great deal if it teaches young people how to make a
living but doesn't teach them how to make a life. Teaching today’s youth about life is the highlight of my job. The
great Jackie Robinson summed it up best when he said, “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other
I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History as well as my Teaching Credential at California Lutheran University in
Thousand Oaks, California. I earned a Master of Arts Degree in American Studies at Pepperdine University in Malibu,
California. I have attended and completed several graduate level teaching seminars in the United States in order to
enhance my knowledge and skills as a social science teacher and see the country.
I have been married to my lovely wife Sandy since 1994. I have a beautiful daughter Megan, who is a senior at
Thousand Oaks High School, and proves that Angels walk among us. I have energetic twin boys Jake and Josh, who are
in 5th grade and make every day an adventure. I have a feisty little Jack Russell terrier named Annie, who always
brightens my day. I spend my free time coaching youth soccer, youth basketball, and Little League baseball. I enjoy
spending time with my family, camping, visiting the baseball parks across America (Wrigley Field, Home of the Chicago
Cubs, is my favorite!), reading political thrillers and noir novels, and searching for the world’s best barbecue
restaurant. I am a hardcore fan of the New York Giants, Los Angeles Kings, Los Angeles Angels, and the Los Angeles
Lakers. I believe Clint Eastwood has never made a bad movie, George Costanza is the greatest character in television
history, Rocky is the greatest movie ever made, Elvis is THE King of rock and Roll, Curly Howard of the Three Stooges
was robbed of more than one Academy Award, and pizza should be its own food group. I am a huge fan of the "Peanuts"
and "Garfield" comic strips. When I eventually pass away, I plan to be buried under the palm trees at the local
In-N-Out Burger, my happy place.
I relish and look forward to the opportunity to help you get another step closer to your goals in life. Let’s MAKE
